The 14th "Dwarf"

While I've got your attention, might I point out the subtle "Hobbit" reference in Panel 2 of today's comic? The reason Bilbo was asked to come on the journey with the dwarves, perhaps even moreso than their need for a "burglar", was the fact that, as they stood, they had 13 dwarves. Because that's such an unlucky number, they needed one more person to make a fellowship of 14. (I imagine they knew that Gandalf would run off repeatedly and only come back for the occasional convenient "deus ex machina" rescue, so he doesn't count) It's one of the aspects of the story that made me smile when I read it, and I feel they didn't really point it out in the movie, which disappointed me a bit. I mean, there was plenty that disappointed me about the movie, but that was all overshadowed by the epic experience of being back in Middle Earth. But this...THIS will not stand!
